SDCC 2019: Marvel Studios' 'Blade' Announced starring Mahershala Ali

Marvel Studios took to the stage in Hall H to reveal the upcoming movies and TV shows from the studio – including the next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and what’s planned for Disney+

Following presentation for Marvel Studios' Black Widow, Feige had another big surprise up his sleeve for the enthusiastic Hall H crowd. He was joined on stage by actor Mahershala Ali and then announced the new Marvel Studios feature film Blade that Ali will star in.

The Daywalker is set to finally join the Marvel Cinematic Universe played by two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali in Blade. While this is great news for fans of the character, the question remains how he will slot into the established MCU. The nature of Blade’s adventures are of course steeped in the supernatural, with appearances of enemies from traditional horror tales like vampires and were-creatures.

Upcoming Movie: Black Widow

The 24th film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the start of Phase Four, will be Marvel Studios' Black Widow, which will hit the big screen on May 1, 2020!

What We Know:
Confirming our guesses, Marvel has announced that the Scarlett Johansson-led film will be the first project to emerge from the studio next year. First revealed in January of 2018 with Jac Schaeffer writing the script, the film became Marvel’s fastest-track project ever with Lore’s Cate Shortland signing on to direct in July of last year. The film is currently in production with David Harbour as Alexei – a.k.a. The Red Guardian – Florence Pugh as Yelena, O-T Fagbenle as Mason, and Rachel Weisz as Melina.

The film is a prequel to the events of Avengers: Endgame, but is still unclear if it takes places years or decades earlier. Some reports indicate the film is set after Captain America: Civil War, but this has not been confirmed. If the rumor turns out to be true, it may still offer some reference to the Phase 4 conflict and Nick Fury’s (Samuel L. Jackson) space fleet.

How It Fits in the MCU:
Flashbacks to Nat’s training in Avengers: Age of Ultron tie back to ideas explored in the short-lived Marvel television series Marvel’s Agent Carter – a series we know the films acknowledge thanks to Edwin Jarvis’s (James D’Arcy) cameo in Endgame – in which a Soviet-trained deep cover agent is assigned to eliminate Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). Investigating the operative, Peggy discovers the brutal facility charged with creating these sleeper agents using methods teased in the Ultron flashbacks. Since the film will be Nat’s first ever solo outing, we’re guessing the conflict will lead to new revelations about her past.

Nigerian Guy Recounts Waking Up To US Hospital Bill of $245k (N88 million) After 7 Days in Coma

"On this exact day in 2011, I got drowned. And after 5 days in an unconscious state, 7 days in ICU. I miraculously woke up to a $245k medical bill. Thank God I survived"

July 20th 2011, a message came from a friend that she dreamt i died, in my head i was like WTF?!

July 21st 2011,had a second messsge from another friend that he also dreamt i died.then i knew it was something to pray about.

July 23rd....days after these revelations..the unusal happend.my heart literarily stopped on the field after just 5mins playing soccer.

July 26th. was in church to give thanks to God as i tought that was the victory over death...perhaps not!

The the real story started 3 days later..after my summer school, all i do was try to write my books, watch movies, play video games and do all sort to enjoy the 3weeks break i have before school starts again.
Then came friday the 29th...a day i will forever remember for the rest of my life...was on my computer at about 6pm when a friend came and asked to help with taking his sister to school in University of California Davis but then i live some 50miles away, since i was bored i agreed to go with him.then we left, his sister,Myself and another friend Pancras.we got to Davis at 7pm.but while driving another friend had called to say we shld hit the club that night in Davis since we all doing nothing.and yes we agreed..for me its been over 2 months since i last went to the club so i guess that was a perfect timing to kick start my break.

At 8pm we left to eat at subways, at 10pm we left subways taking a 15 minutes walk back to the hostel where we had dropped the girl off.we had barely walked for 10minutes when we saw this gathering of people at the community pool..so cool we decided to check it out.that apparently would have been my last party!

We agreed to cancel our clubbing for that night and just chill out at the pool party, then at 10:20pm..i had my 1st plunge in the water came out 15mins later. Walked around then took my suposedly final plunge at about 10:45pm but little did i know that i was at the 15ft end!..was so stupid not to have read the signs.i'm not a good swimmer so as soon as i jumped in i knew in my head, Dolapo this is it!....i was struggling to get out but i had already hit the bottom. I took splits seconds to say my last prayers and then say a sorry to my mum before i eventually blanked out.
When i opened my eyes i had myself in the ambulance...looked at the time it was 11:06pm the paramedics were trying to talk to me, could hear them but i wasn't able to move even a limb.I remember when i got to the hospital the doctor had me taken to the EEG(ElectroEncephaloGram) scanner to have them scan my head to see if there was any damage. As soon i i was taken out that was when i went unconcious.
The next time i woke up was about 7:06am on wednesday, that is some whooping 104hrs!. I missed alot in those 4days.the most notable was a match i had looked foward to between manchester united and barcelona!. i ended up watching the highlight almost a week after!.smh.
waking up was hell because i had this two huge medical hose down my throath(see the picture accompanying this post).one running to my stomach and the other to my lungs. I wrote on a paper asking the nurse twice to get it off me but she kept lieing and asking me to wait few more minutes. I watch her take a walk then i took it off myself!and yes that was a dangerous thing to do!.was so neuseatic that i kept throwin up the remaining chlorinanted liquid i had taken a fatal dose of from the pool.
I wasn't allowed to eat anything till the next day and the nurse kept tellin me i was so lucky to be for that long in intensive care and still pull through.trust me life in the ICU aint fun.i had all sort of syringes, wires and always taking injections in all part, the most scary was on my stomach..geez!.
i had my first meal in 6days on thursday at 9am.was sooo hungry that i ate the donut and milk as though it was my last supper!.left the ICU that evening to the regular ward..and was dischardged 4pm on friday the 5th of august 2011.
A whole week in ICU hmmm...but then i give Glory to God!

I will like to specially thank those who came to see me at the hospital,i know i gave u guys a scare lol and all those that sent me messages.what i learnt in those 6 days was that in the real battle of life...death is constantly a challenge.and we all have a shot at it..rarely will you see people have more than one shot.i was just lucky to be given a second chance!.we just have to live a good life.it's a freakin thin line between life and death!
as i recuperate from the after shocks because i think am so hydrophobic now that each time i see a glassfull of water i tend to wanna run!.lol..and with about a quater of a million dollars charged by the hospital it was a huge price to pay!.....but then also God shew himself strong and i did not have to pay a single penny.

I promise however to live my second life better and appreciate life some more!

No Certificate Listed On Buhari’s CV – Abba Kyari

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, admitted before the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja on Tuesday that no certificate was listed on the President’s curriculum vitae and that none was among the documents obtained from Cambridge University earlier tendered as exhibits.

Kyari, who testified as the President’s third defence witness, also admitted obtaining the Cambridge documents personally on July 18, 2019.

The Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had filed the petition before the tribunal to challenge the victory of President Buhari and his All Progressives Congress in the February 23, 2019 poll.

Part of the grounds of the petition was that Buhari did not possess the academic qualification necessary to contest the poll.

Under a cross examination by the petitioners’ lawyer, Kyari said he was 67 years old and that he had known Buhari for nearly 40 years.

Kyari also said he signed for and collected the Cambridge documents for the assessment by Cambridge.

He did not say if he traveled to London to obtain the documents; but he confirmed that none of the documents contained a certificate.
He confirmed that the Cambridge documents were “assessments.”
He also confirmed that the curriculum vitae signed by Buhari did not have any certificate listed, apart from the list of schools attended by the President.

He also admitted that the Diploma in Strategic Study which he claimed Buhari possessed was not listed in the President’s CV.

Under cross-examination by APC’s lawyer, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Kyari, however maintained that Atiku was a Cameroonian by being born in Jadda in 1946, as of the time of which the part of Adamawa State was still a part of Norther Cameroon.

He also identified Buhari in a picture of those who were said to be the President’s classmates and teachers while graduating as a Class 6 pupil in 1961.

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, host of #BBNaija on Sunday during Live eviction had told viewers to anticipate the biggest twist of the season on Tuesday by 7 pm [Today]
But rumours emerged on Monday that the twist will have two female housemates introduced to the show.
However, checks by DAILY POST shows that the housemates are likely to be Christiana Kayode, aka Berbiedoll and Cynthia, aka Cy4luv212 on social media.
The rumour is now close to fact as one of the proposed new housemates, Berbiedoll has already added BBNaija link to her bio.

This development has generated reactions from Nigerians on social media even though Big brother is yet to confirm the development.
Recall that Big Brother recently shocked the housemates when he returned Tacha and Seyi who were believed by the other competitors to have been evicted.

Here are some comments gathered from Twitter:
@Anyberrie, “If it’s true Cy4luv and Berbiedoll are the fake housemates coming in, Then e go red o. They’re actually friends with Mercy but biggie might give them a script to disrupt d Icy ship, and Cy4luv will play Mercy dirty regardless because that girl is a sucker for cheap fame.”
@_Lusidee, “If this is true then I’m eager to see how Tacha would react to this. Fellow IG celebs.”
@Lawaladenike, “Berbiedoll (the one on yellow) is mercy’s friend and Cy4luv. I ponder if this is true, these girls go pepper oo.”

I want to buy Chelsea –Oluwo of Iwo

Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi
Traditional ruler, the Oluwo of Iwo land, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, in this interview with SODIQ OYELEKE, talks about his sports life and his wish to acquire English giants Chelsea

Did you indulge in sports while growing up?
I’ve been playing football since my nursery and primary school days. I like table tennis too. I played during break time at school.

Were you always on the winning or losing side?
Who will tell you that he loses? I was always on the winning side. How will I be on the losing side?

Which position did you play?
I played as a right winger.

Why did you choose to be a businessman and not a footballer?
During my time, it was tough to get parental consent to play football. At that time, football wasn’t something they would advise you to go into. In fact, if your parents saw you playing football, it made you look unserious. So, my time was not a period when people considered making a living from football.

Did you ever get into trouble playing football?
There was a time that I got the beating of my life, when my mother saw me while she was coming back home from work. We used to look out to know if she was coming or not but that day, she caught me. After then, I only played football and table tennis during break time in school. When I got home, it was to eat, sleep and read my books.

Do you still participate in sports?
Yes, I still play table tennis. I have a table tennis board at the palace. I am also a very good draft player. I also play Ludo and volleyball. Sometimes, I play these sports with my subjects.

Which club do you support and would love to buy?

It is Chelsea. I am a Chelsea fan.

Do you think Chelsea can yield good return on investment, if you acquire the club?
I am a Chelsea supporter. It doesn’t matter what they are doing or where they are. There would be a time that they will come back; and I will not switch because they are not doing well.

If given a free ticket to watch an international match, which would it be?
I would prefer to go and watch the World Cup or the Olympics Games. But if it is a club side, I would love to see Chelsea and Barcelona, because of my love for Chelsea.

How do you feel about the exit of Victor Moses and Mikel Obi from Chelsea?
Time flies and people get older, but they are good players that we have missed in Chelsea. I wish they can still come back. I also hope to see up-and-coming Nigerian footballers in the club.

Who is your favourite footballer?
There are many stars in the world. I can only like some but it is not that I am stuck with one. I like (Cristiano) Ronaldo, (Lionel) Messi and I wish our boys can become superstars too. That is my dream.

What of about Nigerian players?
I like Ahmed Musa. He is my guy. Alex Iwobi is good, and Samuel Chukwueze.

How do you feel watching Nigeria matches?
It is always emotional. I cannot get heart attack because I love it. You will see me moving with the ball as they play.

Would you want your children to engage in sports?
Yes. My son likes football a lot. He has about 10 footballs.

Do you watch local matches?
Yes, I do. I am floating a club right now. It is called Telu FC – TFC. I want the players to go global. I talked to Joseph Yobo, Obafemi Martins and others about it sometime ago.

Who is the most popular footballer that you have met?
Locally, I have met Nwanwo Kanu, Joseph Yobo and Samson Siasia. Obafemi Martins is close to me. Internationally, I have met David Beckham.
Do you think there is a synergy between the traditional stool and sport?

Yes and we all need to look into that. Sport is the future now. Football is the future for our kids. It is another way you can use to engage youths and our subjects from going into crime. Track and field and football also bring our subjects together and bring about unity in our domain.

Many parents don’t want their daughters to engage in sports. What is your advice to them?
We can all see that (Asisat) Oshoala has become someone in this world and I am sure people want someone like that in their families. We have seen role models in football and many others. I believe women football will take the spotlight in the nearest future. Sports is good, it makes you healthy. I think it is something that should be encouraged.

What is your greatest concern for Nigeria football?
Most of our players become poverty-ridden after they have played so hard for this nation. Nobody cares for them and it should not be. A national hero should be a national hero forever. But in Nigeria, the reverse is the case. We do not take care of our heroes, who worked very hard for the country. This is why many of them don’t want to play for Nigeria. When some of them play for Nigeria, they don’t want to play with full commitment because when they get injured, that is the end for them. We don’t want this kind of tradition that people will not want to defend our nation to continue. Even the ones that sacrificed themselves to come and play for Nigeria, they are doing in at their own risk.

How do you think this can be tackled?
We need to invest more in our players for them to be encouraged to play with all their strength. We lose a lot of matches because of the fear of getting injured without insurance. Overseas, the country takes care of them but Nigerian players take care of themselves.

Guests Disperse As Swearing-In Of Justice Tsoho As Acting CJ Of FHC Fails To Hold

Twenty-four hours after Justice Adamu Abdu-Kafarati retired as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, nobody has been sworn in to replace him as of Friday.

The scheduled swearing-in of the next most senior judge of the court, Justice John Tsoho, as the Acting Chief Judge of the court, failed to hold on Friday.

Guests, including a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Michael Andoakaa (SAN), who were at the Supreme Court for the event scheduled to take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday have dispersed.

Also, another judge of the court, Justice Mojisola Olatoregun, who was also at the ceremonial court of the apex court left around 10:40 a.m. when there was no sign in sight that the event would hold.
Justice Tsoho was also at the venue briefly before he left.

No formal announcement cancelling the event was made on Friday, although press invitation was issued by the apex court earlier on Thursday.

Although the oath-taking by Tsoho was supposed to be presided by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, there were speculations on Friday that the CJN refused to show up for the event on the grounds that he had yet to receive any communication from President Muhammadu Buhari in respect of the appointment.

Ebuka Exposes Twitter User Who Accused Him Of Picking Girls He Slept With As BBNaija Housemates

Social media usage has a lot of positives, but some of its excesses need to be checked as some individuals utilise it as a tool to launch accusation without proof. One of these could be seen in the exchange between Ebuka and a Twitter user.

TV host of Big Brother Naija show, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, exposed a Twitter user who sent him a private message to apologise after publicly accusing him of selecting Big Brother Naija female housemates from ladies he had slept with.

The Twitter user took to his timeline and claimed that the show no longer helps, stating without proof that the TV host picked girls at the audition from the ones he had slept with at a popular hotel.

However, after stating the accusations on his timeline, without clearing the air in public, he sent a private message to Ebuka, telling him he did that to get people’s attention.

Ministerial List: Buhari Was Wrong Nominating Akpabio – Sagay

 https://linda-ikejis-blog.blogspot.com/2019/07/ministerial-list-buhari-was-wrong.html
Prof. Itse Sagay, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, PACAC, on Wednesday frowned at the nomination of former Senate Minority Leader, Godwill Akpabio as Minister.

Sagay wondered why President Muhammadu Buhari nominated Akpabio, despite his ongoing investigation for corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
In a chat with Daily Independent, the PACAC Chairman insisted that a government which has anti-corruption as one of its major programmes, should not have nominated Akpabio for the role of a Minister.

He also described most of the nominees as excellent candidates and trusted hands.
According to Sagay: “I am very happy about the excellent ministers that are appointed like Babatunde Fashola, Rotimi Amaechi, Lai Mohammed, Adamu Adamu and Hadi Sirika. I am also happy about the inclusion of the dynamic and highly resourceful Festus Keyamo, who is very young and will add fresh energy and ideas into the team.

“Also, a lot of tested hands and reliable political allies are also there who committed to carrying out the programmes are also included such as George Akume, who is the leader of APC in Benue.
“Altogether, I am happy even though I don’t know many of the names from the North but the ones I know, I am very happy about it.

“The only nominee I am not satisfied with is Godswill Akpabio. I don’t know how he got into the list. That is the only one I have a reservation about.
“You know when we have a programme in which anti-corruption is number one, if anybody is under investigation or not, I don’t think it is wise to include him in that list. But the president knows why he did that. Apart from that, I am quite happy with the list.”

Akpabio first came under investigation in 2015 following accusations that he diverted over N100bn from the oil-rich state between 2007 and 2015, an allegation which he has denied.

According to an interim report by the EFCC, the former governor allegedly gave a bank N1.4bn for unknown reasons.
The former Akwa Ibom governor, however, scaled through his screening without being questioned as Senators urged him a take a bow and go because he was a former lawmaker.

The New 007 is black and a Woman

The most iconic and successful spy franchise, the Bond series, has been in the news recently due to a shocking revelation as regards it’s casting. For what has seemed like forever, there’s been a debate as to who could play the role of the 007 agent –James Bond– once Craig retires from the rolw. Many have suggested that in the future, the role should be more diverse and welcoming, even to the acceptance of a black James Bond like Idris Elba. Well, it seems like the future has caught up with us in an unsuspecting manner.

It would interest you to know that the new 007 in the James Bond franchise is a black woman. This caught a lot of people off guard and has got folks talking. It’s created a buzz for both fans and critics. The new 007 is the black British actress Lashana Lynch. She would be replacing Daniel Craig (who has played Bond in the last four series)  in Bond 25, the upcoming 007 film. This is a break from the hostorically white male role that has always been the norm.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT LASHANA LYNCH
Lashana Lynch is a British actress of Jamaican ancestry who was born in Hammersmith, London. She made her film debut in the 2011 drama Fast Girls where she played the role of Belle Newman –an Olympic hurdler. She was later cast in 2016 as the lead character, Rosaline Capulet, in the American drama series Still Star-Crossed.
Recently, she played the part of the fighter pilot Maria Rambeau in the superhero film, Captain Marvel, which was released in 2019. “When she auditioned for the part she read with Brie, and literally made me cry during her audition,” The co-director, Ryan Fleck, told Empire. “It takes a lot to make me cry, and I was hiding in the corner trying to wipe my eyes.”

LASHANA LYNCH IS 007 BUT NOT JAMES BOND
Just so we’re clear, James Bond hasn’t been turned into a female (or Jane Bond, like someone joked). Rather, Lashana Lynch (as Nomi) is the new 007 after James Bond retires from spy-hood. Daniel Craig still plays a major role as James Bond in Bond 25.

“Traditionalists can relax: she’s not the new Bond, but a new character who takes over his secret agent number after he leaves MI6,” quoting what a  source told the Mail. “It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.”

Here’s a quote from IndieWire about the fuzz this new development creates.

“The radical idea of Nomi assuming Bond’s code number in the same movie is rife with excitement and controversy. It’s never happened before (although Bond was temporarily given the code number 7777 in the ‘You Only Live Twice’ novel). But because Bond is not deceased, perhaps there’s a good reason that MI6 has not retired 007… Who knows?”

THE UPCOMING BOND MOVIE
Bond 25, the 25th instalment in the James Bond franchise is set to be released in the United Kingdom on April 3, 2020. The film is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, the first ever American to direct the Bond series. James Bond is brought back to active service after retirement, by his friend and former fellow agent –Felix Leiter. Felix enlists his help in finding a missing scientist. This search leads Bond into confronting a dangerous villain in a highly risky mission.

THE INTERNET’S REACTION TO A BLACK FEMALE 007
Here are a few tweets in reaction to Lynch’s new role in the upcoming Bond film:

  • Awesomely Luvvie

@Luvvie

Halle Bailey as Ariel. Lashana Lynch as 007. Racist white people are really having the worst life ever. May they continue to stay mad.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR WOMEN
In modern times, the world is evolving into a more female friendly nature. It is no longer the ruling time of patriarchy or male chauvinism. Stereotypical gender roles are fast become blurred as we have women taking up challenging male-dominated roles.

With the #me too movement and the rise of feminism, there has been a call for women to rise above the weak or follower stereotype placed on them. We have a fast rising number of women leaders in various fields. This social justice call for women has also had an effect on the James Bond franchise which has been labelled sexist by a number of critics. To make the series more appropriate for the new era, there have been some changes made.

One of the changes made is that Bond girls are now referred to as Bond Women. Also, we have Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the writer of Killing Eve being brought in to work on the Bond 25 script. Her job is to make sure the film “treats women properly”. Here’s what she told Deadline on how the Bond franchise would be treating women:

“There’s been a lot of talk about whether or not [the Bond franchise] is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women,” she told the outlet. “I think that’s bollocks. I think he’s absolutely relevant now. It has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn’t have to. He needs to be true to this character.”

This shows that the Bond franchise is leaning towards a more female friendly dynamic. Even Daniel Craig, the current James Bond actor, lended his voice in support of this diversity (both in gender and race) for future 007 films. Here’s what he said concerning casting for Bond:

“I think that everybody should be considered,” Craig said. “Also for women and for African-Americans, there should be great parts anyway, across the board.”

All said and done, we the lovers of James Bond series are happy about the progress of the 007 film so far, and we can’t wait for the release of Bond 25.
See you at the movies next year,

Our Priority Is To Create More Jobs In The Country” – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday 23rd July, 2019, in Abuja said that the priority of his administration “is to create as many jobs as possible.”

Speaking at an audience with the National Executive Council of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers led by its President, Comrade John Adaji, at the State House, President Buhari said in the last four years, the Federal Government deployed limited resources to job-creating sectors like agriculture and mining.
Lamenting the closure of textile factories especially in the North which gave rise to crimes.

He said:-

“We promoted policies that will support local industries such as import restrictions. We introduced programmes that provided affordable and accessible capital to both large and cottage industries.”
 He added that:-

“We also introduced Executive Orders that encouraged the procurement of Made in Nigeria goods and services.”
According to the President, his administration would continue to support the above policies and programmes in the years ahead, stressing: “We will not allow Nigeria to return to the days of exporting jobs through the importation of food and clothing items which can be produced locally. We owe this to the over 200 million Nigerians.”

The President noted that the textile and garmenting sector has the potential to create millions of jobs and will therefore, remain one of the priority sectors for the administration.
Referring to his recent directive to all Government uniformed institutions to use locally produced garments, President Buhari said unbelievable number of jobs will be created when the military, police, para-military organisations including the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), fully patronise local industries.

He urged State Governments to buy into this policy for their schools, hospitals and other institutions.
On the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) which Nigeria recently signed, President Buhari said, “We have developed a comprehensive strategy to fully optimise the benefits” with necessary safeguards in place. He stressed that “Our priority remains to create jobs in Africa for Africans using a large proportion of African raw materials.”

Speaking on behalf of the Union, the General Secretary, Comrade Issa Aremu, commended President Buhari for being the first Nigerian leader to grant the 41-year-old body an audience, and making the revival of the textile industry a campaign topic.

Bemoaning the closure of hundreds of textile factories which used to employ “millions of workers more than the workforce of the Federal Government in the 70s and 80s,” he also saluted the textile-friendly policies of the administration such as the interventions by the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Executive Order on the use of local garments by uniformed organisations among others.

Pledging to support the administration to “keep our youths out of the streets,” the Union urged that the incidence of smuggling be checked in order to maximise the job-creating benefits of the textile industry.

President Buhari was decorated as the Life Patron of the Union in appreciation of his textile-friendly efforts.
