On Saturday 5th of July 2014 Bestman Games teamed up with Cycology Riding Club, a non-profit cycling club, to organize the first City of Lagos Monopoly Cycling Tour. Bestman Games is the African Distributor of customized editions of Monopoly, the world famous board game owned by Hasbro.
The objective of the cycling tour was to promote financial literacy; proceeds from the event are channeled towards the establishing of Personal Finance school clubs. They believe The Bestman Games Personal Finance Club programme is an effective vehicle for delivering a critical tool to the next generation of Nigerians. Representatives from leading financial institutions including First Bank, GTBank, FSDH, and Access Bank were on hand to support the initiative.
Some prominent landmarks featured on the City of Lagos Edition of Monopoly were visited by over 70 cyclists. The event kicked off at 7:45 AM. from Iddo Terminus, through Carter Bridge and down The Marina passing Muson Centre then onto Awolowo Road. The cyclists then passed Falomo Roundabout and rode down Bourdillon Road and crossed the spectacular Lekki-Ikoyi toll bridge, into Lekki Phase 1 before returning to Victoria Island through the Admiralty Circle Plaza toll-gate.
There was an exciting stop at Mansard Insurance on Bar Beach Road where their CSR team met with students from Caro Favoured School, Ajegunle and Heritage Schools, Ikorodu and gave a short presentation on the importance of staying healthy.
The tour ended at Terra Kulture Art Gallery where a delightful reception awaited them. The refreshments were generously donated by Cheesecake Express, Sweet Sensation, and Wilson’s Lemonade.
CEO of Bestman Games, Nimi Akinkugbe, “We are grateful to Cycology Riding Club and all our sponsors who have partnered with us as we seek to empower our youth regarding their personal finances. The Monopoly Cycling Tour underscored the important link between health and wealth.”
Catherine Bickersteth of Cycology stated that promoting family fun is a common value Bestman Games and Cycology Riding Club share. “Riding with your partner (I ride with my husband) reinforces common goals and allows more bonding time in this busy world of ours. I had a blast taking in the old sights of Lagos, which I have not visited in years or ordinarily would not have visited at all. I had not really taken in the Iddo Terminus during my visits to Iddo Market“.
The City of Lagos Edition of Monopoly was launched in December 2012. Subsequently the Nigerian Centenary Edition was launched in February 2014. Bestman Games has hosted two annual Monopoly Inter-School Competitions, an “Easter hunt” in April and the “Valentine’s Day couple Challenge” in February, with more exciting events on the way.
