It can be recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday sacked Mallam Lamido Sanusi as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati said Jonathan had found out that Sanusi’s tenure as the CBN governor has been characterised by acts of financial recklessness and misconduct which are inconsistent with his administration’s vision.

However, many Nigerians believe the CBN governor was axed because he exposed the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, as an harbinger of corruption and financial mismanagement, diverting huge federal revenues accruing to the nation from the sale of crude oil.

Mr. Sanusi says as much as $20 billion oil money is missing.

Sanusi however on his arrival from Niger promised to challenge Mr President in court concerning his sack. In his words..

|"I will not go back to it. I think it will be in the interest of the institution for the courts to establish once and for all if the president has the powers to do this. If it is not challenged, the next Central Bank Governor cannot be independent with fear of being suspended by a politician. I do plan to have the courts confirm if indeed that authority exists and I will challenge it"

NigerianEYE also reported that some officials of the State Security Service, SSS, seized the travelling documents of suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, shortly after he arrived Lagos from Niger, where he had gone to attend a meeting of governors of central banks in the West African sub-region.

He was released later, while his travelling documents remains seized.
