I have been a fan of mineral makeup ever since I got
a chance to try it years ago. Now I have been on the hunt to find the best mineral foundation for black skin.
I love mineral makeup because it is super light on my oily skin, coverage is great, does not break me out and best of all, it is made up of mostly minerals from the Earth. To me, it is like a heaven send to women like me who wear make most days and don’t like the heavy, cakey feeling from a lot of commercial foundations.
There have been some challenges to wearing mineral makeup and the major challenge is in the color matching. It has been a bit difficult to find a shade of mineral foundation that truly complements my skin tone and that is because most times, the colors tend to leave a ashen hue on my skin. Now, this will be a problem most of the time for ladies with darker skin tones because two popular ingredients in mineral makeup that provide the opacity and coverage are known to give the skin a ashy appearance and the ingredients are titanium dioxide and zinc dioxide. These are popular sunscreen agents and if you have ever applied sunscreen containing those ingredients you’ll know that it tends to leave a white film on the skin, not a good look.
The good news is there are a few companies that I have come across that produce mineral makeup in formulas that are complexion friendly for individuals with darker tons. I have compiled the list below of companies that provide the best mineral foundation for black skin. Now, I haven’t had the opportunity to try the products from all the lines but I am looking forward to doing this in the future and will give my reviews.
Valana Minerals
Christopher Drummond- powder foundation is titanium dioxide free
Ada Cosmetics
